Training Day

Training Day:

Takes us back to the good old stories of good cop - bad cop.  In Training Day, Denzel Washington plays the corrupt, veteran cop who must partner up with newcomer, Ethan Hawke and show him the ropes.  On the rookie's first day, he finds that he must face certain moral and ethical issues that his veteran partner intentionally puts him through.  They find themselves taking bribes, doing drugs, and a number of other things that cops aren't suppose to be doing.  There is no doubt that Denzel Washington is supposed to be the villain in the movie, but the only problem is that the writers made the bad-cop so likeable, that you have a problem accepting the inevitable finale.  I actually found myself pulling for the villain instead of the rookie who was supposedly doing the right thing.  Denzel Washington plays his bad-cop role to near perfection (which is why he probably won the Best Actor Oscar for it).  I know the bad guy isn't suppose to win at the end, but in this one, I liked the bad guy character more than his good guy counterpart which is why the ending just didn't sit well with me.   Overall, still a good movie and probably worth seeing.
