The Time Machine

The Time Machine:

The classic book is brought to the big screen once again.  Plot summary: Everything seems to be going right for scientist, Alexander Hartdegen (Guy Pearce) when suddenly his fiancée is killed.  Determined to get her back, he builds a time machine in which he plans to go back in time to prevent the tragedy from ever happening.  He quickly discovers that it is not quite so easy to change the past and as a result, he decides to go into the future to find some answers.  In doing so, Alexander accidentally winds up more than 800,000 years into the future where he may finally find what he's looking for.  Never having read the original H.G. Wells book, I didn't have too many expectations going into this movie.  It was actually very entertaining up until the end where it seemed as if filmmakers were really rushed to conclude the movie.  I have a feeling that producers wanted to keep the movie length down as usual, so many scenes in the end sequence might have unfortunately been cut out.  Hopefully on the DVD, there will be alternate endings available because this one just doesn't quite work for me.  Still, the majority of the movie was entertaining enough.
