Shallow Hal was kind of a letdown for a movie from the Farrelly Brothers. Then maybe my expectations were too high going in since I loved There's Something About Mary. The movie stars Jack Black who has always judged women based on their looks until one day he is hypnotized to see only people's "inner" beauty. He meets Gweneth Paltrow who he sees as the most gorgeous girl he's ever seen, but in reality she weighs more than 300 pounds. He goes the course of the movie without realizing the truth until he is un-hypnotized by his best friend played by Jason Alexander. I guess there was too much of the "don't judge people on their looks" theme and not enough big laughs. There were a few chuckles to be had so all is not lost. Maybe the Farrelly Brothers will do better on their next outing.
