Scary Movie 2
Scary Movie 2: Should be called Stupid Movie 2
I would highly recommend waiting for the rental on this follow-up to last year's Scary Movie. There are some jokes that will have you laughing out loud, but there are also a lot of bad jokes that will have you holding your head in shame. Scary Movie 2's brand of crude humor may have been funny (very funny) in movies like There's Something About Mary or even the first Scary Movie, but it has since been way overdone and now it's just plain stupid. There are a few good parodies to speak of but not nearly as many as the bad ones.
Scary Movie 2 parodies numerous movies and some of them are entertaining to watch not so much because they're funny, but because they remind you of the good movies that they are spoofing. When they go into spoofs of Charlie's Angels or Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, we're all paying attention to how close they come to the originals. But when they spoof brainless movies like Save the Last Dance or Dude, Where's My Car?, that just makes it doubly mindless as we're watching a bad take-off of an already bad movie.
There's also a lot of bad, tasteless humor in Scary Movie 2 that is just drawn out way too long. There is one character called Hanson (Chris Elliot) who walks around with a deformed hand. Of course everyone is disgusted to touch the decrepit hand in any manner. But when they try to use the same gimmick 5 or 6 times in the movie, it gets old really fast especially since it wasn't even funny the first time. Then there's Dwight (David Cross) confined to a wheelchair, whose masturbation humor is simply not amusing. Other things include fake penises being thrown around tiresome fart gags. Again this kind of crude humor was shockingly funny for movies like There Something About Mary or South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, but nowadays it just seems like a joke that has been told so many times that it's not funny anymore.
Quick recap... overdone vulgar humor, lots of bad parodies, but some good parodies. Like I said before... wait till it hits free cable to watch this one. One of the movie's taglines is "No More Mercy. No More Shame. No More Sequels - Honest! - We lied." After watching Scary Movie 2, I wish they hadn't lied.
