Queen of the Damned

Queen of the Damned:

First off, this was one of the dumbest vampire plots I've ever seen.  After 100 years of sleep (apparently because he was bored with the world), the vampire Lestat returns looking for some excitement so he starts a punk/goth band.  Through his music (which is hugely popular), he supposedly gives away ancient vampire secrets which leads other vampires to want to kill him.  Lestat's music eventually awakens Akasha (some sort of vampire queen) who inexplicably wants to wipe out the human race.  Not looking forward to the end of civilization, a group of ancient vampires must try to stop her.  Meanwhile in the subplot, there is a mortal who is fascinated with vampires and wants Lestat to show her what it's like to be a vampire.  It was almost painful to sit through this movie.  Give me a break... a vampire rock star?  They took a Lestat character, who was so well developed in Interview with a Vampire,  and turned him into some sort of punk-rocker.  I'm not sure if the problem was in the movie's interpretation or if this is how Anne Rice intended it, but Queen of the Damned doesn't deliver.
