The Curse of the Jade Scorpion (2001)

The Curse of the Jade Scorpion:

I've never fully realized Woody Allen's comedic wit until I saw The Curse of the Jade Scorpion.  Then again, I've only seen maybe two of his other films when I was young, one of which was Play It Again, Sam (1972) and the other was Small Time Crooks (2000).  I think I may have been missing out all these years on some good laughs.  In Jade Scorpion, Woody Allen shows me that he really is a great writer/movie-maker and I don't have to take other people's words for it any more.  The movie takes place in 1940 New York and Woody Allen plays insurance investigator, C.W. Briggs who finds himself trying to solve several baffling jewel robberies.  Helen Hunt plays office efficiency expert, Betty Ann Fitzgerald who finds Briggs utterly repulsive.  These two characters really hate each other and the resulting banter between them makes watching the movie more than worth it.  Their comedic timing is perfect and the script seemed to be packed full of witty one-liners that had me laughing out loud throughout.  Now I think I may have to watch some of Woody Allen's other movies and hopefully they won't disappoint.
