High Crimes (2002)

High Crimes:

Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman re-team for the first time since 1997's Kiss the Girls.  In their latest endeavor, Ashley Judd plays attorney, Claire Kubik who's husband has been taken into custody by the U.S. military.  Believing in her husband's innocence, Claire represents him in the case and enlists expert military lawyer, Charles Grimes (Morgan Freeman) to help out.  Together, they will try to uncover a dangerous world of government conspiracy and cover-ups.  The plot has been played to death to say the least, but Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd do manage to salvage the movie with their terrific chemistry.  It seems that in only their second movie together, they can already play off each other as if they've done it a dozen times.  Morgan Freeman had some pretty good dialogue to work with in this movie, but unfortunately it doesn't last throughout.  There's also a plot twist in the last act of the movie which could be easily forecasted about 20 minutes into the movie.  High Crimes did show some promise early on, but it finished rather weakly.  For the most part, the story was very predictable and conventional, but Ashley Judd and Morgan Freeman do a good job in their roles.  If these two should pair up again, all they would need is a good script and you'll get one heck of a movie.
