Hart's War

Hart's War:

This was probably the first movie about Nazi P.O.W. camps that I've seen and somehow I don't think actual P.O.W.'s were treated quite a nicely as depicted in the movie.  Ignoring the Hollywood embellishment of the situation, the movie was actually somewhat entertaining although slow-moving at parts.  Here's how the story goes: Lt. Thomas Hart (Colin Farrell) is captured by Nazi forces and thrown into a P.O.W. camp where the man in charge (amongst the prisoners anyway) is Col. William McNamara (Bruce Willis).    When two black airmen are thrown into the camp as well, racial issues quickly arise amongst the prisoners.  One of the prisoners is murdered and one of the black airmen is accused.  McNamara sets up a trial (with the permission of the Nazi warden) and appoints the young Lt. Hart as council for the accused.  The result of the trial takes the audience through several plot twist before the truth finally comes to light.  Like I said before, the movie was somewhat entertaining but maybe not quite as exciting as it should have been.  Here is a prime example of when novels sometimes don't translate quite so well into movies.  But if you're browsing around the video store someday, it wouldn't hurt to rent it either.
