Dragonfly
Dragonfly:
Here we have a rather obvious attempt at a Sixth Sense type of suspense movie, which isn't a bad thing because I loved The Sixth Sense. In Dragonfly, Joe Darrow (Kevin Costner) loses his wife in an accident and in the midst of his grief, he realizes that his wife may be still trying to communicate with him. He just has to figure out what she's trying to tell him. The suspense is built up wonderfully for most of the movie, making you jump in your seat at the appropriate moments. It was working for about 3/4 of the movie, but the last 1/4 was just too happy-go-lucky which ruined the entire mood of the movie. The ending - which was supposedly meant to be a surprise ending - was not really a surprise at all. I think I figured out how it was going to end about half-way into the movie. There were also certain things (of which I cannot mention without spoiling the movie) that were not handled well enough to make it a completely convincing story. Still, it was a good attempt and I admittedly jumped in my seat a few times. I give it 3.5 spades because I was enjoying most of the movie up until the last bit.
