Death to Smoochy (2002)

Death to Smoochy:

Rainbow Randolph (Robin Williams) is on top of the world hosting his children's television show that is number one in the ratings.  That is until he gets caught red-handed taking bribes from parents swooning to get their kids on his show.  As a result of the scandal, the network fires him and replaces the Rainbow Randolph show with a new, wholesome character known as Smoochy the Rhino (Edward Norton).  Not dealing very well with his newfound unemployment, Rainbow Randolph vows to get revenge on his successor.  The movie seems to just plow through the story without ever establishing a clear point.  In other words, I'm just not sure what the filmmakers were trying to get at, but maybe that's just me missing the point.  Still, they've failed to get into my thick skull so I'm going to have to deduct points.  Another thing is that it's supposed to be a dark comedy but what little humor there was surely wasn't "dark."  Death to Smoochy is mildly entertaining with good performances from Robin Williams and Edward Norton but on the whole it seemed like it would have been two hours better spent elsewhere.
