The Caveman's Valentine (2001)
The Caveman's Valentine:
Romulus Ledbetter (Samuel L. Jackson) is a former Julliard student and a brilliant composer/pianist. He has since become schizophrenic and believes that there is a conspiracy against him led by someone he calls Stuyvesant. Romulus has also become homeless and lives in a cave, thus the locals in the area call him "Caveman." One morning, he finds a dead man up in a tree right outside of his cave and instantly believes that it was a murder. He tries desperately to get the police to believe him about the murder but no one is willing to listen. Having no other choice he sets out to find the murderer himself.
Through all of Samuel L. Jackson's roles, he has managed to avoid any typecasting because he manages to sell each one of his characters as originals. I never see any of his previous characters in this Romulus character and actually, I found myself more engrossed in the Romulus character than I did in the murder mystery plot. The conflicts within Romulus' mind were certainly more interesting than finding out whodunit. Overall it was semi-intriguing to watch Sam Jackson but I probably wouldn't watch it again.
