Brotherhood of the Wolf

Brotherhood of the Wolf:

Brotherhood of the Wolf is from France and is subtitled for American audiences.  The movie had the feel of a mini-epic and had some great fight sequences.  The setting is 18th century France and there is some sort of beast on the loose killing hundreds of women and children.  The majority of the movie is spent trying to hunt down this beast.  There's also love, politics, and friendship laced into the story which makes it all the more interesting.  Did I mention the great fight scenes?  Some plotlines were not really developed enough though.  By the end of the movie, the characters of Fronsac (Samuel Le Bihan) and Marianne (Emilie Dequenne) are supposedly in love and yet we never really get to see them falling in love.  One moment, it seems as though they are hardly involved and the next they seem to be deeply in love.  Another may be the character of Jean-François (Vincent Cassel) whose motives seemed hard to follow and there doesn't seem to be much reason behind his actions.  Of course most of this could be due to differences caused by the translation process.  Because of the subtitles, it's a movie that you will have to see twice in order to fully appreciate it.  After you already know the story, then you can focus more on the onscreen action.  All in all, I would say that it is a movie worth seeing.
