Behind Enemy Lines

Behind Enemy Lines:

If you're looking for a no-brainer action movie, then this one may prove to be pretty entertaining.  No thinking required... just watch the fun.  Seemed to me like it was kind of a cross between Top Gun (1986) and Rambo(1985).  The movie follows Lt. Chris Burnett who is a pilot in the U.S. Navy.  He is getting tired of all the routine missions and is looking for more action.  One day, on a routine intelligence gathering flight, he finds himself suddenly under enemy fire.  His plane is shot down and he is forced to eject landing him in the middle of enemy territory.  Now he must fight to survive on the ground where he must stay alive until rescue teams are able to extract him.  Rescue teams are delayed due to bureaucracy and a rogue officer (Gene Hackman) must put together his own rescue plan before it's too late.  Disobeying orders to the contrary, he launches his rescue attempt in the nick of time.  So in Behind Enemy Lines we have a single warrior who must fight against overwhelming numbers (a la Rambo) and a commanding officer who must disobey orders to go rescue his soldier (I'm not sure which movie this was done in, but I'm sure it's been done).  This movie is full of cliché but it still works for action/adventure purposes.  Owen Wilson does a great job as usual and brings a certain light-heartedness to the movie.  He has a great charisma and it makes all his characters fun to watch.
