America's Sweethearts

America's Sweethearts:

Okay... okay... so technically it's a romantic-comedy.  But it's not a romantic-comedy like those Meg Ryan / Tom Hanks type of movies (i.e. Sleepless in Seattle or You've got Mail).  It's as much a romantic-comedy as was something like High Fidelity, so it's not all sap.   America's Sweethearts is actually pretty witty and very well written (Billy Crystal was one of the writers).  There's a ton of great banter between the characters who are all very likeable and makes watching the movie that much more entertaining.  True... there is some romantic sap in the movie, but the movie's dialogue more than makes up for it.  Actually, from what I've read, typical romantic-comedy fans didn't much care for this movie because it isn't what they're used to which is a sappy movie with a bunch of "I love you's" in the script.  Alright... enough disclaimers about this not being a real romantic-comedy.  America's Sweethearts proves to be just like their tagline says: "A comedy about celebrity, family and other forms of insanity."  I'm recommending this movie not for the romantic sap (there isn't that much anyway), but for the laughs I got from Billy Crystal's script.
