Along Came A Spider (2001)
Along Came A Spider:
Morgan Freeman reprises his role as Dr. Alex Cross, which he originated in Kiss the Girls (1997). These days it seems like all Morgan Freeman does these days is psychological thrillers. It started with Se7en (1995), then Kiss the Girls (1997), and Along Came A Spider is the latest. In this effort, Dr. Alex Cross is once again pulled into a case that he isn't prepared to take. Less than a year before, his partner was killed in an undercover sting operation that he set up and he is still drowning himself in self-loathing over it. Now, a senator's daughter has been kidnapped and the kidnapper specifically wants Cross on the case so someone will fully appreciate the extent of his genius. Cross finds a willing partner in Secret Service Agent Jezzie Flannigan (Monica Potter) and together they will solve this puzzling mystery. After watching this movie, it just seemed like a cheap Silence of the Lambs knockoff. Every twist and turn that the filmmakers threw at you could be predicted at least 5 minutes before they actually happened. There have been way too many attempts at this psychological-thriller genre lately (Hannibal, Don't Say A Word, The Glass House, etc.) and Hollywood needs to hold off on making them unless they have a good fresh script.
